FAQs

Childcare questions families ask us most

A quick guide for families comparing early learning and care, from settling in to subsidies, daily routines and what to ask your local centre.

What age can my child start childcare?

Most Explore & Develop services care for children from around 6 weeks old through to school age. Availability, room age groups and enrolment options can vary by centre, so it is best to contact your preferred location directly.

How do I choose the right early learning centre for my family?

Look for a centre where your child feels safe, welcomed and understood. Families often consider educator relationships, learning programs, outdoor spaces, location, opening hours, fees and communication with families when choosing care.

What does a typical day in childcare include?

A typical day includes a balance of play-based learning, group experiences, outdoor play, meals, rest time and routines that support each child. Educators plan experiences around children's interests, developmental needs and family input.

How do you help children settle into care?

Settling is handled gradually and with care. Educators work with families to understand each child's routines, comfort needs and personality, then build trusting relationships through consistent communication and gentle transitions.

Can I get help with childcare fees?

Many families are eligible for the Child Care Subsidy, which can reduce out-of-pocket childcare costs. Eligibility and subsidy amounts are managed by Services Australia and depend on your family circumstances, activity level and income.

Do centres provide meals, nappies and daily essentials?

Inclusions can vary between locations. Some centres provide meals, snacks, nappies, wipes, sunscreen or bedding, while others may ask families to bring certain items. Your local centre can confirm exactly what is included.
